Awareness posters
“Parents! Your children are traumatized by your acts of violence” · 2017 · Photoshop and Illustrator
Drawn by hand, on a tablet
Professional Bachelor’s thesis project, Institut des Beaux-Arts de Foumban, on psychological violence inflicted on children without realizing it: gestures that seem harmless, or that are not aimed at the child, yet affect them deeply. Four posters using the principles of comics (panel layout, framing) and the mood-board (one dominant color per mood).
Animated film
Les aventures de Kulu et Imbem · “The Quest for Water”
Graduation film · 6 min 14 s · 77 shots · IFCPA-CRTV, 2017–2019
Drawn by hand, on a tablet
Pilot for a series for ages 4–9, adapted from La ruse de Kulu, an original idea by Joseph Didier Noa. The village is short of water: Kulu the tortoise and Imbem the lion set off for the spring, which Abeng the crocodile has blocked to keep it for himself. Kulu challenges him to a tug-of-war and wins, with the secret help of the whole village. Imbem then proposes to share. The characters wear obom, a bark used as textile, and the setting comes from the savannas and Fang-Beti huts of central Cameroon.
My role
Character designer, background painter, art director, animation director, storyboard, animation, compositing, editing and titles.
Team
Direction and script: Justine Awoundza. Project lead, technical breakdown, compositing direction and editing: Jules Kalla Eyango, who later directed Mboa Matanda, which I produced. Original idea and concept art: Joseph Didier Noa. Sound: Joseph Fotso Nono. Facial animation: Alex Bitaah Mvé Koh. Supervised by Hervé Noutchaya.
Production
Ten weeks, six people, 14 characters, 5 environments, 77 shots. Each member of the animation team held several roles. Sketches on paper, scanned then finalized in Illustrator; backgrounds in Illustrator, map in Krita; animation and compositing in After Effects; editing in Premiere Pro.
Characters
Fourteen characters, four of them main ones. The costumes were redone along the way, because they did not fit the Fang-Beti world of the story.

Backgrounds
Five environments: the village, the savanna, the cliff, the forest and the spring. Sixteen paintings, thirteen of them used in the film.
Character research
Studies where the mask-face grammar is being worked out. They feed upcoming projects.
